What’s the hardest part of a remodel or new construction job?
For many people, it’s the end, where you move back into a space that’s been reimagined and reinvented by a property owner’s dream and a hard-working professional crew, and you step in and look around…
That last step involves putting the final touches on a new space, getting rid of all the trash and debris, making it move-in ready and opening it up for the customer to come home. That’s something that all companies do, but not all do well.
Project Scope
Depending on the project scope, moving back in involves resolving some big changes that had to occur in the first place to allow crews to work on the home.
For instance, if you’re getting a brand-new kitchen, chances are you didn’t cook in that kitchen for at least a few weeks. You’re missing your daily routine with your coffee maker, range top, etc. You’re excited when it’s time to move back into the house, and having a good company to usher you back in helps you to feel good about the job that you paid for.
Accommodating Your Schedule
The best contractors will anticipate these challenges and make it easy to return to your new home space when the job is done.
As mentioned, that means getting rid of all of the extra stuff that has accumulated in the job site over time. If there was a wrapping on certain new products and it was carelessly shed on the floor, that needs to go. There may or may not be a dumpster, depending on the size of the project, so that requires getting all of this waste into the conventional garbage chain, or (as the contractor) taking it with you as you go.
On top of that, home improvement professionals have to be transparent and communicative about time frames. People were expecting to be back in their homes with their regular routines at a certain time. Has that been adequately communicated to the customer? If not, quite a bit of frustration can result.
So yes, doing a great job is extremely important. But that last step is also important, too – bringing people back home. Then families can marvel at their new space while actually using it for the first time, and resettling into what they’re accustomed to in their home.
