At Point Vertex, where we’re actively involved in working on renovation projects with customers, we’ve found some trends over the years that help people to brainstorm how to upgrade their homes.

One of these is related to an overall idea that we often talk about with clients – reimagining spaces. It involves looking at why you wanted to renovate in the first place, and understanding more about what you do in a particular area of a home, and how to accommodate that.

For instance, we’ve talked in the past about different types of kitchen renovations and restorations where we’re not only putting high-quality modern materials in place, but upgrading the amenities and appliances that people use to cook or to store food.

Bathroom Renovations

So let’s talk about a particular trend in renovations that contemplates specific uses for a property.

In a sense, your first floor bathroom is often a home’s showroom. In other words, if you’re working from a budget and have only a set amount of money to put toward upgrading a property, you may want to start with the first floor bathroom since it’s the part of the house that gives an overall impression to guests.

At the same time, a first floor bathroom doesn’t need to be a full bath. If you have a tub or shower upstairs, you don’t necessarily need to have one on the first floor. Builders got used to building in bathrooms in a fairly generic way, and so many two-floor homes have a shower or tub on each floor. It’s also fairly easy to do the plumbing for this type of upgrade, but as we’ve said, people’s needs change over time, and you may find that you want a full bathtub up top and a half bath below.

Designing this way helps you to conserve resources and target your renovation to what will bring you the most value and satisfaction over time. Instead of having that shower or tub on the first floor, you can invest in the kinds of quality installations that really impress visitors – high-end chrome faucets and fixtures, exquisite-looking tile surfaces, modern and functional vanities, and more.

This is just one example of the kinds of design that help people to do more with home renovations. We’ll bring you more of these blogs to discuss how to approach a renovation project as we continue to provide customized results for clients and talk to them about their needs prior to starting on a renovation project.
